The GINI index is a measure of income inequality. There are many freely available resources, and some library resources, that can provide you with relevant data:

  • UNU World Income Inequality Database - provides the most comprehensive set of income inequality statistics available and can be downloaded for free; 201 countries up to 20 years coverage.
  • World Development Indicators from the World Bank also include GINI index for select countries and years.
  • If you're looking for historical data The World Bank has a research project that covered 1890-1996, microdata available for select countries.

If you would like further assistance with this research, please reach out to the Business & Economics Librarian.
