Most people are interested in a statistic called the Consumer Confidence Index, which can be accessed (at least for OECD countries) through the OECD iLibrary database. There's information about the U.S. Consumer Confidence in the Conference Board Research Collection database. The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis FRED also provides access to a few other statistics that may be of interest including 'Consumer Sentiment' and 'Inflation Expectation'.
